This will be an A-G course and fulfills the "g" requirement (for Ocean Grove students only.)

This course will introduce students to basic concepts and terms surrounding religions, and identify what purposes religions have served historically, and presently fulfill, in people’s lives.  Students will examine a number of the world’s extant religions in closer detail, including historical background (in some cases with competing theories or ideas about origination), the fundamental beliefs and concepts of each, and narratives of the experiences of individual practitioners. Brief passages of various scriptures will be used as examples of key language and concepts, and primary source vignettes from practitioners from various parts of the world will be examined - including from tribal or indigenous religions for which written texts may not be a necessary component.

The Middle School class will go over same material as the High School class but will be more project based. We will focus less on lecture and more on projects. (That isn't to say that the High School class will be boring and totally lecture based as well.)
